# Map

> The official map of Redgum, and how to turn in-game positions into pixels.

North is up. The image is rendered from the same map the game's minimap uses.

## From position to pixel

Players' `location` (and `LocationX` / `LocationZ` on the ER:LC layer) and calls' `position` are in studs. To place them on the image:

```
pixelX = (x + 2650) × 0.5
pixelY = (z + 1950) × 0.5
```

The full image covers x from −2650 to 2750 and z from −1950 to 702. Anything outside that is off the map, usually out at sea.

```javascript theme={null}
const MAP = { originX: -2650, originZ: -1950, scale: 0.5, width: 2700, height: 1326 };
function toPixel({ x, z }) {
  return { left: (x - MAP.originX) * MAP.scale, top: (z - MAP.originZ) * MAP.scale };
}
toPixel({ x: 268, z: -330 }); // { left: 1459, top: 810 } = the police station
```

If you draw the map at another size, multiply by `drawnWidth / 2700`.

## As JSON

[`GET /v1/map`](https://api.eraus.gg/v1/map) returns the image URL, its size and the numbers above. It needs no key, so you can cache it.

```json theme={null}
{
  "name": "Redgum",
  "image": "https://apidocs.eraus.gg/images/redgum-map.png",
  "imageWidth": 2700,
  "imageHeight": 1326,
  "pixelsPerStud": 0.5,
  "origin": { "x": -2650, "z": -1950 },
  "bounds": { "minX": -2650, "maxX": 2750, "minZ": -1950, "maxZ": 702 }
}
```

## Postal codes and streets

Each player location also has a `postal` and a `street`, worked out in game the same way the location HUD does it. Away from roads, `street` is the name of the area instead. Postals match the ones on the in-game map, so dispatchers and players read the same numbers.
